Construction Design & Management Regulations (CDM) Services

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 requires a Principal Designer to be appointed for all commercial and domestic projects where more that one contractor is involved on a project. Our principal consultants have the experience and competence to provide an advisory/support service to Clients / Designers / Principal Contractors who take on the role of Principal Designer.

As CDM Advisor to a Principal Designer during the Design Phase we will:-

  • Advise and assist the principal designer with his/her duties
  • Assist the principal designer in identifying, obtaining and collating pre-contruction information
  • Prepare the Pre-construction Information (PCI) document
  • Review and comment on the Construction Phase Plan (CPP) prepared by the principal contractor
  • Notify HSE using the F10 Form on behalf of the client

As CDM Advisor to a Principal Designer during the Construction Phase we will:-

  • Ensure the appointed principal contractor has been issued with the relevant pre-construction information
  • Communicate and liaise with the principal contractor during the project
  • Support the principal contractor in developing the health & safety file
  • Liaise with principal contractor regarding any ongoing design

CDM Services to a Principal Contractor

In situations where a Principal Contractor may feel they do not understand the CDM Regulations or do not have the competence to prepare a suitable Construction Phase Plan (CPP) and associated documentation, we could be appointed to act as Health & Safety Advisor to the Principal Contractor. As part of this service we will:-

  • Meet with the principal contractor on site to review scope of project and site requirements
  • Ensure relevant information is available
  • Attend pre-lauch meetings or othe meetings as required
  • Prepare the CPP and associated forms and checklists
  • Prepare Site Specific Risk Assessment & General Risk Assessments
  • Prepare General COSHH Assessments
  • Prepare Site Rules / Induction leaflet
  • Undersite Site Inspections / Audits as required

In some situations a project may be well underway and a principal designer may not have been appointed. In this scenario we would advise the client or principal contractor that they would need to be the principal designer and we would ensure relevant information is available for preparing the CPP for the principal contractor without the need for a separate Pre-construction Information document.
